A Better Tomorrow School
Institute for Free Education - Mirpur
Entry to the school is means-assessed, meaning that A Better Tomorrow only accepts children who are unable to afford an education. The majority of the students either come from working class families or are refugees from the neighbouring troubled North West Frontier Province and Afghanistan and as such have never received a formal education. This strategy has paid huge dividends as it has nurtured many gifted and talented young children whose potential would otherwise have been squandered in the injustices of their society.

Donors
In the past, some of the project's donors have worked in conjunction with the British Friends of Kashmir and the AJK government and succeeded in building schools in Nar, Kotli District and Mirpur. Together they form our Board of Directors and help provide financial and strategic support for our various projects. Alongside our long term contributors are our independent donors who help support a variety of individual students and community based projects.

Volunteers
Led by a team based within the U.K our volunteers have helped with building projects, recruiting pupils, supporting the development of staff, delivering aid and provisions and managing our web presence. Our Training and Co-ordination team help staff integrate innovative teaching methods into daily practice and help structure programmes of learning.

School Staff
We have over 18 highly motivated and dedicated teachers who all come from challenging backgrounds. Noor Khan, a former student, is our longest serving member of staff. His own hard work and commitment have empowered him to become a leader within the school. We are committed to the continued profesional development of our staff so they can deliver quality teaching and learning. We offer them support through our Training and Co-ordination team who organise workshops and seminars as well as one to one support for individual teachers.

Learners
Our learners make huge sacrifices. They belong to some of the most marginalised, victimised and vulnerable sections of society and are afforded few rights let alone opportunities. We provide support beyond the school through our community based projects which help provide food and employment .
